5 Best Cheap Gymnastics Bars (for home use)

A gymnastics bar is a great idea if you have young, aspiring gymnasts at home. Gymnasts can do extra practice, try out new skills and work on important strength-building exercises all year round.

A cheap gymnastics bar will be the choice for many people on a budget and the good news is that you can pick up a good quality, cheap gymnastics bar for around $100 – $150. It may not have all of the features of some of the big brands such as Tumbl Trak but these high-end gymnastics bars will sell for as much as $1,000.

If you know what to look out for you can pick up a good deal, but beware of some cheap imitation bars that are just not up to the job. I’ve put together my recommendations of the five best cheap gymnastics bars below.

Best Cheap Gymnastics Bar – FB Sport

The best cheap gymnastics bar currently on the market is made by FB Sport. This bar is foldable so it’s ideal for storing when not in use and the rubber feet give a good level of stability.

It has a maximum weight of 110 Ibs and five adjustable points from 36 to 52 inches which makes it ideal for younger gymnasts up to the age of around 10 or 11 years old.

FB Sport Bar

What we like

  • High weight capacity
  • 12 adjustable height levels
  • Wooden bar rail
  • 10% discount with the code COMPLETEGYMNASTICS

What we don’t like

  • Non-foldable design

Runner Up – JC Athletics

The JC Athletics gymnastics bar is strong and sturdy and as a result, is suitable for teenagers as well as younger children. The wooden bar rail is similar to the type of rail used on a conventional Uneven Bar used in professional gymnastics facilities. I’m often asked if a wooden bar can snap but the answer is that wooden bars are very strong. So whilst it may flex a little bit, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to strength.

The original version of this bar didn’t fold, but we are glad to see that the newer version does. However, it is more fiddly to fold than other cheap gymnastics bars.

The two flat crossbars give extra rigidity to the metal frame and there are also two small side extensions to the frame which reduce the wobble from side to side. As well as purple there are also pink, green and blue versions.

What we like

  • High weight capacity
  • 12 adjustable height levels
  • Wooden bar rail

What we don’t like

  • Takes longer to fold than other bars

Best Fiberglass Bar – FC FunCheer

The FC FunCheer option is a decent pick if you are looking for a cheap gymnastics bar at home. It has a lot of the features other bars in this price range have – double locking height adjusters, a range of color options and a choice of heights.

In addition, it also has two diagonal frames linking the uprights to the bottom of the frame.

The bar itself is different from some other cheaper bars in that it is made from fiberglass and covered with a wood-effect plastic. The fiberglass itself is very strong but it can be slippier than other similar bars. Professional Uneven Bars are solid wood and sometimes use fiberglass to strengthen them so the choice of material is not uncommon, it’s just the wood effect finish that is a little different.

What we like

  • 4 color options
  • Additional frame strength on sides
  • Strong fibreglass bar

What we don’t like

  • Bar is slippier than wood

Best on a Budget – HappyBuy

HappyBuy has some of the lowest prices on Amazon for gymnastics equipment. Usually, I hesitate to recommend stuff that is really low priced BUT HappyBuy products tend to stack up pretty well. They also sell Air Tracks and Mats all with better customer reviews than you would expect for the price.

The extra rings attachment is a cool add-on and means the bar can be used for an even wider range of skills. The rings are great for working on strength and conditioning, even for girls who don’t traditionally compete on the Rings.

This set of gymnastics bars is a little shorter than similar other bars at 50 inches but it still has a good weight capacity so if your looking for something up to the age of 9 or 10 years old then this could be for you.

What we like

  • Rings addition
  • Foldable design
  • Easy to assemble

What we don’t like

  • Slightly smaller than other similar gymnastics bars

Best Package – SaFly

The SaFly gymnastics bar has the option of including a mat with the package. As well as being safer, it will also add more stability as the mat won’t slip like a hard floor or carpet might.

The design of the bar itself is very similar to others such as the FB Sport and Happy Buy but with both of those options, you will need to buy a mat separately.

It’s ideal for younger children wanting to practice Kips, Pullovers and hanging. If you need more ideas of what to practice check out this article on the 6 things you must practice at home.

What we like

  • Landing mat included (available without mat as well)
  • Instructional video
  • Adjustable anti-slip feet

What we don’t like

  • Only 4 height choices

Conclusion

If you are looking for a cheap gymnastics bar for home use, all of the suggestions on this list will provide a good choice for younger children. You will pick all of them up for less than $200, and most will be less than $150.
